The Durgenheim Delver's Guild
The Principality of Gheldham
The Principality of Gheldham is a monarchy located on the southern part of the continent of Erion. It borders Pallan’dur to the west, Ordovicia to the north, and Kel’ission to the east. Its capital is Durgenheim, and its total population amounts to just over 11 million. The Principality is formally ruled over by Prince Feliad VI, but in reality the various dukes, barons, and counts that comprise his vassals wield most of the effective power in Gheldham. The seat of the Prince itself is often thought to be a puppet office, but with so many hands trying to pull the strings politics in the principality mostly amount to various court nobles squabbling over influence and resources.
Gheldham’s economy has been shifting steadily downward over the past few decades, as most of the nobles in power dedicate more attention to interfering with one another than trying to produce long-term growth. Life as a peasant in Gheldham generally means living in poverty, and revolts are common but generally unsuccessfuly as nobles spend their hoarded gold on Ordovician mercenaries. Despite this, Gheldham is still a world leader in the production of black powder weaponry, and horses from the region are generally well sought-after. Durgenheim in particular is famous for its experienced shipbuilders, which in turn provides Gheldham with a very capable navy – the various Durgenheim Dreadnought flotillas provide a welcome defense against any incursions from the Feng. In addition, the Principality-commissioned Tradewinds Transportation Corporation benefits greatly from the excess of well-built ships in the region.
